Finding Inspiration Together
When Manishita approached me about creating a wedding gift for her chef friend, I was immediately enchanted by the idea. She wanted to honour her friend's culinary artistry by recreating one of their signature dishes on paper, complete with a glass of red wine. The concept felt like celebrating two forms of art - the chef's plated masterpiece and my watercolour interpretation of it.
Our Creative Journey
This project sent me on the most delicious research journey! Together, Manishita and I explored different angles, lighting, and compositions to capture not just the dish, but the elegance and sophistication behind it. Finding the perfect balance between the food's intricate details, the wine glass's transparency, and a background that would make everything sing was like solving a beautiful puzzle.
The Final Piece
Food art demands such precision; each gradient and highlight had to capture not just how the dish looks, but the love and expertise that went into creating it. When the final piece came together, it truly felt like honouring one artist's work through another's medium.
Created With Care
Using professional cold-pressed Arches 300GSM paper and my finest Schmincke, Holbein, and Daniel Smith pigments, I built layers of transparency and depth to make each element, the gleaming plate, the perfectly plated dish, the crystal glass come alive on paper.
Time Taken
3 weeks of careful attention, from studying culinary photography to adding the final shimmer on the wine glass and professional framing.
