I was about to wrap up for the day, Indigo paint still sitting on the palette. I had been obsessed with the pigment for a while. Then a thought arrived… I have never seen indigo flowers with my own eyes. What would they look like?

This is what came to me.

Inky indigos, soft mauves, hints of berry pink. Each stem and bud arriving unhurried, the way flowers do at dusk. I did not plan it, I followed the feeling.

Painted impulsively on a half-used piece of paper, which is why Bloom exists only as a limited edition archival print. Some of the best things begin that way.
