I am a sunset chaser. But what I've learned over time is that the real magic doesn't begin until the sun is completely gone.
I had taken a day trip to Madh Island that summer evening with one intention. The air was breezy, smelled of the ocean, and I walked across the rocks to get closer to the water. Then I waited, for the light to die down further so a long exposure wouldn't burn the frame, and for the tide to come in closer. Both things needed to happen at once.
The wind was strong enough that setting the tripod on the rocks felt like a risk. I did it anyway.
When everything finally aligned, light, tide, stillness, I took the shot. The real surprise came later on a larger screen. The long exposure had turned the water into something that looked like mist drifting across rock. A slight turn of dials in post brought out colours I hadn't fully seen standing there, the sky holding more than I'd realised, the water shifting between states.
I couldn't have been happier that day. Not because the shot worked, but because I had stayed long enough to let it.
This photograph exists in an edition of 15. Not because editions are expected, but because some moments deserve to live in only a few rooms.
