I came across a single image of a solitary poppy merging into its background and felt an immediate pull to recreate it. One pigment only. Daniel Smith's Moonglow.

One of the most challenging pieces I have made. Recreating a blurred, dissolving form with just water and pigment, too much control and it hardens, too little and it disappears entirely. The restraint was the practice. The practice of patience.

What remained is somewhere between a flower and a memory of one. Present enough to recognise, distant enough to reach for.

That is the mirage.
