This began as a first attempt at a commission, a fig painting for a client's doctor friend, figs being her favourite fruit. I painted it, was not convinced, and moved on to a different version. This one stayed behind in a closed sketchbook.
Then one day I opened it and found the piece staring back at me. Quietly. Like something that had been waiting.
I realised immediately I had abandoned something beautiful.
The name came from Alt-J’s Ripe & Ruin, which is one of my favourite tracks, and the moment I looked at this piece again, the name arrived on its own. Something about the fullness of the fruit and the softness of what surrounds it. Present and passing at the same time.
In its full, juicy warmth for a kitchen wall, a dining corner, anywhere that welcomes that kind of glow.
One of only 25. Once they're gone, they're gone.
Limited to 25 so it remains rare, considered, and genuinely collectible.
