Sunset in E Minor · Silent Conversations · Original Watercolour
I noticed I had been avoiding vibrant colour. So one day I decided to change that.
I chose two of the most vibrant shades from my palette and anchored them with Sodalite Genuine, a granulating pigment from Daniel Smith, dark and moody, one of my favourites. I knew it had to be a sunset. But the seascape was a welcome surprise!
Rough Arches paper, so the pigments could do what they do best when water gets involved. Soft strokes for the glowing sky, broader and more deliberate strokes for the sea gradually meeting the shore. I did not plan the composition… I followed it.
Like E minor, bright on the surface, something quieter underneath.
I relive this piece often. It made me feel alive that day.
