I don't usually bring my camera near water. The sea especially, too much risk, too much salt in the air. But I had it with me that day, sailing off the coast of Goa, and I'm glad I did.
The waves out here were nothing like the shore. Softer, slower, almost indifferent to the boat moving through them. And the sea and sky were the same blue, not quite matching, but close enough that the line between them kept dissolving. I found myself looking for the horizon and losing it.
It made something clear to me that I hadn't thought about before: the idea of no separation. Not as a concept, but as something I could actually see.
The sun was high and soft. The breeze was warm. Everything felt suspended, not frozen, just unhurried in a way that onshore life rarely allows.
I nearly didn't have my camera. I almost didn't have this.
This photograph exists in an edition of 15. Not because editions are expected, but because some moments deserve to live in only a few rooms.
